Parish Feast celebration (+ photo)

It has become our tradition to celebrate our Patronal Feast on the first Sunday after Christmas.  This is an important and happy event, especially as it is still illuminated by the light of Christmas.  A gorgeous Christmas fir tree decorates the interior of the church; the choir sings Christmas chants; our parishers and guests share a meal after the service; children play joyful games and receive presents.

_DSC4179This year, a special occasion coincided with our celebration: His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, Archbishop of Sydney and Australia and New Zeeland, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, visited Wellington on his Archpastoral mission. Like in previous years, a group of pilgrim from Auckland arrived with Fr. Vladimir, rector and dean of all New Zealand parishes.

Dear brothers and sisters!

On January 12, we will celebrate the Parish Feast of our church. This year Metropolitan Hilarion, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, will lead the service. We would be very grateful if you could contribute to the preparation of the upcoming celebration.

Tomorrow, on December 22 at 12.00 pm we plan to clean up the hall and decorate a Christmas tree. A clean-up of the church and section is scheduled for Saturday, January 4 at 11.00 am.

Pan-orthodox conference

ConferenceII (2)

Pan-orthodox Conference took place last Saturday in St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church. It gathered people from all Wellington Orthodox parishes. The central topic of the day was “Practising the true faith – Orthopraxia”.

The key message on this topic was delivered by Father Paul Patitsas, who shared his reflections on the words of St. Kosmas: “If we want to fare well in this life and to go to Paradise … we must have two loves: the love for God and the love for our neighbor. Just as a swallow needs two wings in order to fly in the air, so we need these two loves …”.

Fr. Paul also presented a trial issue of the Orthodoxia NZ journal, which will hopefully be finilized into the Issue #1 in November and will be available in all Orthodox Parishes in Wellington and all over NZ. One the most important characteristics of the journal is its pan-orthodox nature. All parishes are encouraged to provide materials for the journal.

The seminar turned out to be an interesting and rich event – vivid discussions, informative reports, The liturgy in four languages (Romanian, Greek, Serbian and Russian), and above all – a spirit of unity overcoming the cultural borders and differences.

P.S. You may find more photos of the event in the Fr. Alexander’s personal blog (in Russian).
