The celebration of the Nativity of Christ in the Church of Christ the Savior, Wellington.

On January 6, 2020, the all-night vigil was led by priest Aleksei Popkov. About 30 parishioners attended the service. According to the traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church, the father Aleksei anointed everyone present with holy oil.
On the night of January 6th to January 7th, a divine liturgy was held in the church. About 20 people took communion. Some families came with children.
According to the decree of Metropolitan Hillarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, the celebration of the parish feast is postponed on the next Sunday. Therefore, on January 12th, a festive service was held in the church, led by the Dean of New Zealand Archpriest Vladimir Boikov with hieromonk Cyprian (Galkin), the clergyman of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ of Auckland, and the clergyman of the Church of Christ the Savior of Wellington Archpriest Aleksei Popkov served him. More than 50 people, including children, attended the service.
After the liturgy, a concert dedicated to the Nativity of Christ began in the parish hall. The concert was attended by children from the Sunday school, they read poetry, sang Christmas carols in Russian and English, and also performed various works on the piano. Father Aleksei and matushka Olga Popkova sang a few carols together. After that, Santa Claus congratulated everyone and gave all the children sweet gifts. Everything continued with a festive meal.

Merry Christmas and Happy New 2020 year!

We would like to invite you to celebrate Christmas with us on the 12th of January 2020.

Holiday service will start at 9.30 am. At the end of the service, there will be a procession around the church. Straight after that, at the end of the service (around noon) there will be Christmas concert in the church hall. Santa Claus (Father Frost) will give gifts to children.

The request of the priests of the ROCOR of New Zealand.

Dear parishioners and guests of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Wellington, brothers and sisters, friends!

We want to ask you for financial support for the Russian church in Wellington city. This parish was founded in 1952, at the expense of immigrants, members Russian community. Several times the temple buildings were resold for various reasons.
and currently the temple is located at 62 Darlington road, Miramar, Wellington.
Now this temple is experiencing very serious financial problems. On the account of the temple funds left to pay the necessary payments for a maximum of 6 months.
We ask you to make a donation to the church to cover the most necessary things for our community life, such as the priest’s salary and utilities. The responsibility for collecting this money lies with the entire parish as a whole and with every person in particular. Every donation can make a difference side. All donations are tax deductible and the tax office returns one third to the donor of the donated amount, if there is a supporting document, which can be issued by the temple accountant upon request.

Charity Fair in support of the Wellington Russian Church.

On November 23, 2019, a charity fair was held on the territory of the Russian church in Wellington, the main purpose of which was to collect donations to support church activities.

At 11:00, the opening of a personal photo exhibition by Alexei Kulikov, a photo artist, mainly taking photographs using lenses released in the last century, as well as using film, took place.

In parallel with the opening of the exhibition, the Garage sale began to work in the Sunday school classroom.

In the middle of the day, the kitchen began to work in the church hall, where everyone was invited to try traditional Russian dishes: borsch, Olivier salad, and vinaigrette. On the street, meanwhile, cooked kebabs and sausages. “Teremok” and the visiting peddlers offered to try cakes and sweets.

All guests were invited to watch a video that told about the secrets of cooking Russian borsch. Special thanks for the video editing to Alexei Medvedev.

Very pleased with the performance of Irina Shatalova. She performed several traditional dances accompanied by Vladimir Zvegintsev (accordion). Especially the guests of the fair were filled with a costume in which Irina danced to the public.

Our fair was visited by Paul Eagle, a Member of Parliament from the Labor Party.

The main goal of the fair was to collect donations for the church. Together, they managed to raise 1420 New Zealand dollars. This is a good result.

Diocesan Assembly 2019.

From November 14 to November 17, 2019, a meeting of the Australian – New Zealand diocese was held in the city of Sydney in Australia. The meeting was led by Bishop George of Canberra.

Before the beginning of the meeting, a moleben was served in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, at the end of which Vladyka sprinkled holy water on everyone.

On the agenda were questions about the activities of the diocese over the past three years, as well as plans for the coming years. Among the speakers were priests from New Zealand – prot. Vladimir Boykov, prot. Valentin Basyuk and prot. Alexey Popkov. They talked about the activities of the parishes, and also outlined the difficulties that they have to face in the parishes where they serve.

On November 15, a concert of the Australian Russian Orthodox Male Choir, conducted by Nektarii Kotlyarov, was held in the Russian club building on Friday evening. Among the guests of the concert was the Bishop of Australia and New Zealand Siluan Serbian Orthodox Church.

On Sunday, a divine liturgy was held in the cathedral, led by: Gabriel – Archbishop of Montreal and Canada, and George – Bishop of Canber. Many priests and deacons received regular awards from the bishop.

The meeting was held in an atmosphere of Christian brotherly love and harmony. More information can be found on the website of the Australian – New Zealand diocese.

Meeting with father Alexander.

On November 10, 2019, Father Alexander Skorik served a divine liturgy in the Church of Christ the Savior in Wellington. Many parishioners remember Father Alexander, because he served here several years ago and, therefore, a lot of people gathered in the church that day. After the end of the service, a conversation was held with the priest in the refectory.
