On the 6th and 7th of January, 2018, a celebration of the Nativity of Christ took place in the Russian church in Wellington. In these days, the church was visited by many parishioners who came from different parts of Wellington and its suburbs.
The festival began on January 6 with a concert that was prepared and conducted in the church hall by a musician from the city of Oakland – Svetlana. She sang musical works of various composers on the harp. The peculiarity of her performance was that she allowed everyone to sit next to her during the performance and touch the harp by hand, thereby trying to feel the vibration of the harp. Many who came to this concert did so. After the concert, a festive evening service was held, at the end of which, Father Aleksei anointed everyone with the consecrated oil.
The next day, a divine liturgy was held in the church, for which more than 50 people prayed. After the end of the service, a religious procession took place around the church. This time he was a full rank and all were able to get around the temple around, which before that could not be done.
After the end of the procession, everyone went to the pre-church hall where the celebration of the meeting of Father Frost continued, the performance of children from Sunday school, a concert and a festive meal.
All the parishioners congratulated each other on this wonderful holiday. Thank God for everything!!!
On March 13, 2018 father Alexei Popkov congratulated the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Zealand Amphilochios, of the Church of Constantinople, on his birthday. Father Alexei sent regards from all the parishioners of Wellington church of Christ the Saviour and wished His Grace many more years.
Finishing the Sunday sermon on March 11, 2018, father Alexei Popkov told about the new books which were presented to the church library by father Nikolai Troitsky, the priest of the church of St. Savva Serbian (in Ekaterinburg, Russia). Almost all the books are in English.
The author of these books is priest Daniel Sysoev, a Russian Orthodox missionary who was killed in 2009 in Moscow. Father Daniel’s books are easy to read and the material is presented there in a lucid and comprehensible form. Many of the books are published in mass editions and translated into many languages. Now the paritioners of our church have a unique opportunity to study the works of priest Daniel Sysoev.
Among other books, a child prayer book was added to the library. This book will help our little parishioners learn prayers in English.
Another book which deserves special attention is by Valeriy Shambarov. It is about songs from Tsarist Russia which were adapted by bolsheviks. The reader can recognise many songs from Soviet times, which, according to the author, were originally written in pre-revolutionary Russia, and then refurbished after the revolution.
All the books were given to the librarian Natalia Platova, and can now be accessed by all the registered users of our library.

After long summer holidays, the Sunday school of Wellington Church of Christ the Saviour resumed its classes in the new 2018 academic year. Traditionally, after the Divine Liturgy a special prayer service was held in the centre of the church. During this service students, their parents and teachers prayed for the Lord’s mercy for the coming year. At the close of the service, father Alexis sprinkled holy water on those who were present.
