On March 4, 2019, at 14:00 on Monday, the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for worship. Bishop Nikolai Olkhovsky and Archpriest Vladimir Boykov delivered the icon on this day. Few parishioners came to meet the icon and worship it.
At 18:00 a moleben was performed with an akathist before the icon. He headed the prayer Bishop Nicholas, co-served: prot. Aleksei Popkov and priest Predrag Grubachki (Serbian Orthodox Church). Before the start of the prayer service, Vladyka thanked the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to New Zealand Georgy Viktorovich Zuev and his spouse Nadezhda Ivanovna for their visit and interest in the life of the community of the Russian church. More than 70 people gathered for a prayer this evening.
On March 5, at 8:30 on Tuesday, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated, headed by Bishop Nicholas, and served as Fr. Vladimir Boykov and priest. Aleksei Popkov.
On the evening of that day, the icon of the Mother of God was brought to the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Sava, where she was met by the priest Predrag with the parishioners.
February 24, 2019, after the end of the divine liturgy, in the church hall, poetry of Russian poets was read. Church members read poems of their favorite authors. Some poems were read in two languages: in Russian and in English.
The Russian Orthodox priest in Wellington, Father Aleksei Popkov and his community liason assistant Vladimir Bell, visited the Wellington Islamic Centre on the 18.03.19. There they paid a tribute of compassion and solidarity to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack and to the local Muslim communiry. Fr. Aleksei made a donation on behalf of the Wellington ROC for the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack and told that he is initiating the fundraing among the Russian Christian community in order to help the Muslim community of New Zealand to recower from itts terrible loss.
Russian church’s representatives got warm welcome, very friendly reception and many thanks from the President of the International Muslim Association of New Zealand, Tahir Nawaz and his assistants.
Both community leaders expressed strong belief that the Christchurch tragedy won’t have shaken the traditional mutual respect and friendship between all God-loving people in their communityes but made it even much stronger.
March 24 and 31, 2019 in the Russian church in Wellington (62 Darlington road), from 11:00 to 14:00, donations will be collected to the victims of the tragedy. All funds raised will be transferred to the bank account of The International Muslim Assosiation of New Zealand 02-0500-0284361-03 (BNZ). Anyone can make a transfer in person to the specified account or bring their own funds and we will do it.
On February 23, 2019, the photo exhibition “Brazil in black and white” by Ivan Elizarov dedicated to the author’s life in this country will open in the church hall. Ivan lived in Brazil for 15 years and during this time he made a lot of photos showing life in this part of the earth.
We invite everyone to the opening of the exhibition at 18:00.
The exhibition will last two weeks.

At the Cathedral of Christ the Savior there is a Sunday school for children and adults. After the service and the meal, the lessons begin. Children’s school includes 3 classes by age: junior, middle and senior. Classes are held in classrooms located in the temple building. School for adults is usually arranged in the refectory room or in the temple. To enroll in a children’s school, you must have an interview with the priest of the temple, Fr. Aleksei Popkov.
