On January, 8, 2017 Wellington Church of Christ the Saviour celebrated its Dedication Day. The celebration started with the Divine Liturgy lead by the rector father Vladimir Boykov. About 50 people from Wellington and its suburbs attended the service. After the service the students of the church Sunday school gave a performance including a short play and a concert. The play was directed by Galina Mosina and Olga Popkova. Father Alexey together with mother Olga and father Vladimir sang a few Christmas carols and hymns. Father Alexey accompanied the chanting on gusli – a Russian traditional instrument. After the performance everyone was invited to join the holiday feast. Among others, representatives of the Serbian parish with father Predrag joined the celebration.

On January, 2, 2017 father Alexey Popkov met with archimandrite Meletios at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, Wellington. The mural paintings on the main dome and walls of this church were finished not long ago. On visiting the Greek cathedral, father Alexey invited father Meletios and his parents to visit the Russian Orthodox Church.

Happy New Year to our parishioners and all the people!

On January, 1, 2017, the first liturgy of the new year (according to Gregorian calendar) took place at the church of Christ the Saviour. Not many people attended the service because a lot were away or could not come due to the bad weather. After the liturgy a prayer service “For the beginning of a new year” was held. At the beginning of this service, everyone present at the church lit candles which were brought from Jerusalem by pilgrims. As usual, after the service everyone joined a shared lunch in the church hall. May God grant us strength and patience in the new year!

On December, 31, 2016 the parishioners of the church of Christ the Saviour together with father Aleksey Popkov took part in a memorial service dedicated to those dead in the plane crash. Orthodox Christians of Wellington did not remain indifferent to the terrible tragedy which took many lives. Having commemorated the untimely dead by a common prayer, let us also ask God to forgive our sins.

On January, 28, 2016, church of Christ the Saviour greeted guests from the Serbian community of Wellington. A few days before a new priest arrived from Serbia to serve at the Serbian parish. He came to our church together with his wife, the Serbian priest from Auckland father Savva, and a representative of the Serbian parish, Valentina. The guests came at the time when the community of the Russian church was preparing to the coming holiday of the Nativity of Jesus Christ and the New year, decorating the church hall and the Christmas tree. Father Savva helped to decorate the Christmas tree and put a star on top of it. The guests were offered some tea and then entered the church to pray and pay their respects to the icons. After the meeting father Savva presented the Russian parish with a kilo of wax candles he had made himself. We hope for more contacts with the Serbian community and ask God to help the new priest in his hard pastoral service in the capital of New Zealand. Help him god!

Please bring a plate of food for the party table (finger food, desserts, etc.)

If your child is going to take part in the party, please bring your own inexpensive gift, wrapped and signed.
